Biographical/Historical Information

The lawyer Irving Lehman (1876-1945), brother of Senator and Governor Herbert H. Lehman, served in several higher court positions from 1908 on. From 1940 until his death in 1945 he was Chief Judge of the New York Court of Appeals.

Judge Lehman was married to Sissie Lehman, née Straus, the daughter of department store owner and philanthropist Nathan Straus.
