Biographical/Historical Information

Susi Lewinsky received her art training at the School of Arts and Crafts in Hamburg and took courses with Professor Erwin Panofsky at the University of Hamburg. After her graduation she taught art at the Jewish School for Girls and illustrated children's books. Following Hitler's rise to power, she emigrated to England in 1939 and left for San Salvador two years later together with her husband, where she continued her art studies. The Lewinskys immigrated to the United States in 1957 to give their three children a good education. Susi Lewinsky lived in San Francisco and has exhibited extensively her work in the U.S. and abroad.
