Biographical/Historical Information
Philipp Veit (1793-1877) belonged to the circle of German romantic artists in Rome called the Nazarenes. His maternal grandfather was the German Jewish philosopher Moses Mendelssohn (1729-1786), but Veit himself converted to Catholocism.
