Biographical/Historical Information

Carl (also known as Karoly) Goldmark was born on May 18th 1830 in Keszthely/Hungary, and died on January 2nd 1915 in Vienna. He was a composer; his most famous opera was ‘Die Königin von Saba’, which was first performed in Vienna in 1875 and remained in the repertory of the Vienna Staatsoper continuously until 1938.

August Weger was a German steel engraver and graphic designer. Born in Nuremberg in 1823, he founded a graphic institution in Leipzig in 1840. Weger is best known for his portraits of notable Germans.
