Biographical/Historical Information

The French lithographer and painter Paul Gavarni (pseudonym of Hippolyte-Guillaume-Sulpice Chevalier) was born on January 13, 1804 in Paris, France; he died on November 24, 1866. - Gavarni was one of the top popular artists of the period: according to Encyclopædia Britannica, Gavarni’s “work is enjoyable for its polished wit, cultured observation, and the panorama it presents of the life of his time.”
