Biographical/Historical Information

Ludwig Lange was a German architect and landscape designer. He studied architecture under Georg August Lerch and then under Georg Moller at the University of Giessen from 1826 to 1830. He moved to Munich to study landscape painting with Carl Rottman. In 1834 he traveled to Greece to study abroad and was appointed as a drawing teacher in Athens. He also served as a building inspector for King Otto I. In 1838 he returned to Germany and began teaching architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich in 1847. He is best known for his architecual designs, a series of prints published his brothers (Gustav Georg and Julius), and another engraved series of German cities on which he collaborated with Ernst Rauch.
