Biographical/Historical Information

Karl Kraus (1874-1936) was a writer and publisher. He founded "Die Fackel" in 1899. With an unsurpassable sense of humor and wit, he attacked the social ills of his time. After 1918 he became a pacifist.

Emil Stumpp was born in Neckarzimmern in 1885. He studied briefly in Karlsruhe, but was largely self-taught. He was active as a painter and lithographer in Königsberg. In 1941 he died while being held as a political prisoner in Stuhm (Sztum, Poland).
