Biographical/Historical Information

Antoinette von Kahler (1862-1951) was the mother of writer Erich von Kahler, and was a writer and artist in her own right. Born in Austria, Kahler escaped Nazi Germany in 1933 with her son and emigated to the United States in 1938. They settled in Princeton, NJ and were close friends with Thomas Mann, Albert Einstein, and other German intellectuals. Kahler wrote various children's books and plays, in addition to embroidering and painting.
