Biographical/Historical Information

Jonathan Eybeschutz (Kraków 1690 - Altona 1764), was a scholar of the Talmud, Halacha, and Kabbala. After studies in Poland, Moravia, and Vienna, he settled in Prague in 1715, where he headed the Yeshiva. Like Jacob Emden he was accused of being a secret Sabbatian. In 1750, he became Rabbi of the “Three Communities”, Altona, Hamburg and Wansbeck.
