Biographical/Historical Information

The town of Michelstadt in Hesse, Germany, was home to the “Baal Shem of Michelstadt", the rabbi and kabbalist, Seckel Wormser (Isaac Loeb, 1768-1847), who arrived there around 1790, when the synagogue was built, and maintained a yeshiva for many years. The synagogue's interior was destroyed in November 1938, but the exterior survived and was turned into a museum.
