Biographical/Historical Information

The psychotherapist Wladimir G. Eliasberg was born 1887 in Wiesbaden, Germany into the family of the chemist Samuel Eliasberg. In 1896, the family moved to Berlin, where Wladimir Eliasberg studied medicine, mathematics, and philosophy. He continued his studies in Heidelberg, where he became interested in psychotherapy. In 1914, he volunteered for the military service. After the war, he continued his work in psychotherapy and became a very prominent figure in the field. In 1938 he, along with his wife Elisabeth and their four daughters emigrated to the United States. Wladimir Eliasberg practiced psychiatry at Mount Sinai Hospital; he died in New York on February 26, 1969.
