Biographical/Historical Information

Siegmund Hess was born in 1838 in Gross Muehlingen, the son of a musical family. In 1885 he moved to Gardelegen, Saxony, where he remained until his death in 1912. He held the honorary title of Koenigl. Musikmeister (Royal Music Master). Siegmund’s son, Richard Hess (b. 1873) became director of the Hess music school in 1910, until he was forced to resign in 1935.
