    Blackened zinc alloy, Maltese cross with Medallion at center; on one side the medallion contains the initials "R W" on the other side it contains the text "Für Kriegs-hilfsdienst." Stored with accompanying ribbon, which is black and white striped with red trim on edges.

Biographical/Historical Information

The cross was awarded to men and women, irrespective of rank or status, for special merit connected with patriotic war aid. It was instituted by King Wilhelm II of Prussia on 15 December 1916.
