Biographical/Historical Information

Benedikt Salomon Goldschmidt, born in Frankfurt am Main, was the founder of the iron metal business Gebrüder Goldschmidt. Son of Salomon Benedict Goldschmidt (1738-1812) and Reichle Cassel (1746-1810), he first married Bela Braunschweig (1772-1813) in 1796 and was married a second time in 1813 to Sabina Braunschweig (1785-1855). Goldschmidt was the great-grandfather of Bertha Pappenheim, founder of the League of Jewish Women.
