Biographical/Historical Information

Born in Frankfurt, Steven Schwarzschild moved with his family in 1939 to New York City, where he attended high school. Later, he enrolled at the University of Cincinnati in Ohio. Ordained a rabbi at Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati in 1948, he served as a rabbi in both parts of Berlin and in East Germany from 1948 to 1950. He served Jewish congregations in Fargo, ND, and in Lynn, MA, from 1950 to 1964.
