    A gold five-pointed star, with a laurel wreath encircling rays from the center and a small silver star superimposed in the center. The pendant is suspended from a rectangular shaped metal loop with rounded corners. The reverse has the inscription "FOR GALLANTRY IN ACTION" with recipient's name. Attached to a red, white and blue striped ribbon with pin backing. Two scraps of the ribbon are included.

Biographical/Historical Information

Julius and Cilli Hanauer née Speyer were both born in 1886. They married in 1919 and had their son, Helmuth, in 1923. In 1937 they emigrated to the United States by way of France. Helmuth changed his name to Henry and joined the army. He fell in action in France in 1944.
