Biographical/Historical Information

Karl Hanusch was a German painter born in Niederhäslich in 1881. He studied decorative painting at the School of Applied Arts in Dresden and then at the Dresden Academy of Art. Hanusch traveled around and taught at various institutions. In 1933 he was denounced as a Kulturbolschewismus, or an art Bolshevist, and was banned from painting in 1938. After War War II, he reemerged and contributed to the Dresden University of Fine Arts. He died in Dresden in 1969.
