Biographical/Historical Information
Tefillin, or phylacteries, are traditionally worn by observant Jewish men during prayers. They are made up of small boxes containing small scrolls with scriptural text. Arm-tefillin are worn with the leather straps wrapped around the hands and arms. Head-tefillin are placed above the forehead.
