    Circular silvered bronze medal with Art Nouveau points left, right and bottom and a loop for ribbon suspension.

    Recto: Full length figure of a mother carrying a child in a blanket; following her is a male figure in uniform holding an upright rifle. Inscribed below in capital letters: “Gloire aux Serbes” (Glory to the Serbs) and signed “ABargas” on left. - Verso: The coats of arms of the Republic of France and the Kingdom of Serbia with a laurel wreath below and dated “1916” above.

Biographical/Historical Information

The medal was [probably ] issued in France, on “Journée Serbe” [Serbia Day], June 25, 1916, to raise contributions for Serb refugees in France following the invasion of Serbia by Austrian and Bulgarian forces in 1915.

Armand Bargas (1854-1941) was a noted metalwork artist active in Paris at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, best-known for his Art Nouveau buttons and cufflinks.
