Biographical/Historical Information

Oskar Adler (1910-1948) was born in Marktredwitz, Bavaria. He studied oriental languages at Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Berlin and graduated with a doctorate in 1935. In 1938, he got married to Ilse Cohn, born 1915 in Czarnkau, Posen (Czarnków, Poland). After graduating at Lehranstalt für die Wissenschaft des Judentums as a rabbi, the couple emigrated to Palestine in 1939. They immigrated to the United States in 1947, sponsored by his brother Irving (Isaak) Adler.
