Biographical/Historical Information

Gaby Glueckselig was born as Gabriele Bertha Netter in Wiesbaden on April 30, 1914. Her family had been in the jewelry business in Wiesbaden since 1843. Gaby trained to be a goldsmith in Pforzheim and traveled to the United States in 1938, to explore the potential for opening a jewelry business. She held various positions in jewelry shops in her first months in New York City. In January 1939, she met Friedrich (Fritz) Glueckselig, a recent arrival from Vienna, Austria; they got married on January 31, 1942.

Fritz Glueckselig was an art dealer and poet, who published his poems as Friedrich Bergammer since 1926. He was born in Vienna, Austria in 1909 and immigrated to New York in 1938. Bergammer was married to Gaby Glueckselig (born as Gabriele Netter), and in New York he was part of the Oskar-Maria-Graf Stammitsch. Friedrich Bergammer died in New York in 1981. His brother was the graphic artist Leo Glueckselig.
