Biographical/Historical Information

During the Weimar period, the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (NSDAP) looked for scapegoats to accuse of corruption. There were a few scandals involving politicians or high officials (for example, the Erzberger trial in 1920, the Kutisker trial in 1926, or the Barmat trial in 1927), all of which were sensationalized by the right-wing press. There is no more corruption in the Weimar Republic than in any other state. This poster blames "the Republic" for inflation, but conceals the real causes of inflation, namely the war economy of 1914-1918 and the Ruhr struggle.
