    Two pages (a flyleaf and a frontispiece) in the beginning of a book, each page with original drawings and inscriptions by Else Lasker-Schüler. The flyleaf page is mostly an inscription written in pencil to Dr. and Mrs. Hugo Nothmann, and also features a pastedown with a colorful drawing of the head of "Prince Jussuf", and a pencil sketch of three men's heads. The embellished frontispiece features six figures wearing festive outfits, done in pencil and brightly colored crayon, with the inscription: "Meist nur auf Bildern bluten die Menschen bunt".

Biographical/Historical Information

Else Lasker-Schüler was a leading figure in the German avant-garde in the pre-war years. A poet, novelist, dramatist, illustrator and short story writer, she moved in 1933 to Switzerland before finally resettling in Jerusalam in 1940. She died in 1945.
