Biographical/Historical Information

This is a poster from the Bavarian People's Party (Bayerische Volkspartei, BVP). Joseph Goebbels, an intellectual who had a doctorate in German philology, was known as a charismatic public speaker. He rose through the ranks of smaller regional branches of the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (NSDAP) to become district leader (Gauleiter) of the party in Berlin. In 1928, Hitler gave Goebbels the additional post of propaganda director for the NSDAP for all of Germany. Goebbels was instrumental in shaping Hitler's image to the public.
