Biographical/Historical Information

Jan Tschichold (born Johannes Tzschichhold, also known as Iwan Tschichold, or Ivan Tschichold) was a German calligrapher, typographer, and book designer.

In the post war years, new modern art and design styles are heavily influenced by the Bauhaus school. The Bauhaus, led by the architect Walter Gropius, was founded in 1919 in Weimar, and since 1925 was located in Dessau.
