Biographical/Historical Information

This is an official declaration of Friedrich Ebert, who was appointed first chancellor of the new German republic on November 9, 1918. In view of food shortages and other national hardships, Ebert asks for law and order. Friedrich Ebert was the leader of the Social Democratic Party since 1914. In 1919, he was elected President of Germany, a position he held until his death in 1925.
