Biographical/Historical Information

The memory of the First World War and its consequences was present for all Germans at the outbreak of war in 1939. Therefore, the enthusiasm of 1914 was not repeated. The official propaganda seemed all the more confident of victory - and the events seemed to guarantee the "final victory": Poland, Denmark, Norway, Holland, Belgium, France, Yugoslavia, Greece and Crete were conquered one after the other in blitzkriegs.
