Biographical/Historical Information
The number of people killed in the Second World War was estimated at 55 million, including 6.6 million Germans, 20.6 million Russians, and 1.3 million from Europe and America. Over 2 million Germans were wounded or suffered permanent physical damage. In the Federal Republic of Germany, there were 1.1 million war widows after the end of the war; 1.3 million children had lost their father, 54,000 children had lost both parents.
