Biographical/Historical Information
The German Labor Front (Deutsche Arbeitsfront or DAF) was the new national labor organization ,after the Nazi Party had dissolved all independent trade unions in Germany on May 2, 1933. The DAF had both employers and employees as its members. To unite the two sides, this DAF poster evoked the shared experience that many men had of serving on the front lines in World War I. Membership in the DAF grew from 14 million men (and 280 million Reichsmarks) in 1934 to 22 million men (and 540 million Reichsmarks) in 1939. Only a small part of the monetary contributions went to social welfare; the larger part went to armaments.
