Summary
Title page features a woodcut design of columns on the title-page; woodcut initials.
Second of three anti-Jewish writings produced by Luther from 1542 on. To Luther, both Jews and Papists perform magic via letters, formulas, and ceremonies, and kill the living faith with the dead letter. Anti-Judaism was especially strong in the south German cities, where the Reformation also found a ready audience. Jews were not citizens of the cities where they lived, but personal serfs of the Emperor, and often looked upon as a privileged minority.
