    Painting depicts the sitter as a young woman. She has a three quarters profile. She wears a black dress with a lace collar, and she wears dangling earrings. She also has a gold brooch on her collar that depicts her husband, Henry Lehman. Her dark hair is pulled back loosely. The portrait is oval-shaped.

Biographical/Historical Information

Rosa Lehman was born Rosa Wolf in Altdorf bei Nürnberg in Bavaria on December 4, 1823 or 1825. Rosa married Henry (Hayum) Lehman in November 1849 in Montgomery, AL. She had four children. Her husband Henry established the Lehman Brothers banking firm; he died of yellow fever while traveling in New Orleans in 1855. Rosa died in Montgomery, AL in November 1902.
