    Dark navy cap with yellow trim. One side of the hat has stitched upon it North Essex Post 146, J.W.V. The other side of the hat has stitched upon it the insignia of the Jewish War Veterans of the United States. There are five small ribbon bar pins on the hat.

Biographical/Historical Information

Henry Burton Gottfried was born in Vienna in 1919, the son of Elsa and Jacob Gottfried. He went to a trade school to train as an electrotechnician. He left Vienna for Hamburg Germany in 1938, where he boarded a ship that took him to the United States. He entered the U.S. armed forces from 1941-1945, serving in Paris and Ethiopia. He married Hilda Breier in 1948, and they lived with two daughters in New Jersey. Henry Gottfried died in 2006.
