Biographical/Historical Information
The author and playwright S. An-Ski (1863-1920) was born as Schlomo Rappoport in Belarus. He is best known for his widely performed play “The Dybkuk”. An-Ski served in various functions for the revolutionary administration in the Soviet Union.
Leonid Osipovich Pasternak (1862-1945) was the son of a Jewish Orthodox family in the Ukraine. After academic studies in Moscow, he graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and became widely known as a successful impressionist painter.
