Biographical/Historical Information

Hayim Nahman Bialik (Ch. N. Bialyk, 1873 –1934) was one of the pioneers of modern Hebrew poetry. In 1924 he moved to Tel Aviv, where he became a celebrated literary figure and ultimately came to be recognized as Israel's national poet.

Leonid Osipovich Pasternak (1862-1945) was the son of a Jewish Orthodox family in the Ukraine. After academic studies in Moscow, he graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and became widely known as a successful impressionist painter.
