Biographical/Historical Information
The graphic designer Kurt Szafranski was born on October 17th, 1890 in Berlin. He was editor for the Berliner Illustrierte Zeitung (Ullstein) before emigrating to the United states in 1933 and changing the spelling of his name to Safranski. He worked for many years as a counselor for the periodical “Life”. He also was a photographer with his own photo agency, and he taught at the New School for Social Research in NYC. Kurt Safranski died in Kingston, New York on March 1, 1964.
