    The initials IAK are carved near the horse's tail (possibly the artist's initials?).

  • Summary

    Wooden board that acts as a decorative mold or stamp for impressing a design into gingerbread before baking. The design shows a man dressed in Georgian period dress, on horseback. The initials MOP or POM are carved in an insignia near the horse's feet (possibly the intials of the original owner of the gingerbread mold?). The back of the board features a design meant to evoke architectural features.

Biographical/Historical Information

The gingerbread mold was owned by the poet, novelist, and playwright, Richard Beer-Hofmann (1866-1945), an "avid collector of art and antiques". Beer-Hofmann passed the mold on to his distant relative, George V(ictor) Wolfe (a son of Beer-Hofmann’s cousin), who in turn gave it to Ed Reckford in 1986.

The academic George Victor Wolfe (Vienna, 1904 – Caldwell, ID, 1990) was a professor of political science at the College of Idaho in Caldwell, Idaho.
