Biographical/Historical Information
Walter Mehring was born in Berlin in 1896 and counts as one of the most prominent satirical authors in the Weimar Republic. He fought against militarism and antisemitism. His books were burnt during the Nazi book burnings. Mehring fled the country, first to Vienna then to France in 1941. He managed to escape to the United States but returned to Europe after the war. Walter Mehring died in Zurich in 1981.
