Biographical/Historical Information
The Egyptologist and novelist Georg Moritz Ebers was born in Berlin in 1837. He studied Oriental languages and archaeology and embarked on an academic career as a teacher and then a professor in Egyptian language and antiquities at universities in Jena and Leipzig. Next to his academic writings, Ebers also published novels about ancient Egypt and other historical fiction. Georg Ebers died in Bavaria in 1898.
