Biographical/Historical Information
Marie Taenzer (née Schlesinger) was born around 1843. She married Rabbi Heinrich Taenzer and had two children: Bernhard in 1863 and Aron in 1871. Marie worked as a midwife for the Jewish community in Pressburg, Hungary (now Bratislava, Slovakia). Paul (the child in the picture) was her first grandchild. She died in Pressburg in 1906.
Paul Taenzer was born in 1897 in Hohenems, Austria. His parents were Dr. Aron Taenzer and Eleonore Rosa Taenzer. His mother died in 1912. He had three siblings (Fritz, Irene, and Hugo) and two half-siblings (Erwin and Ilse) from his father's second marriage. Dr. Taenzer served as rabbi in Hohenems and then in the German town of Göppingen until his death in 1937. Paul Taenzer married Irma Marx and died in Tel Aviv, Israel around 1945.
