Biographical/Historical Information
Katherine Sophie Dreier was an artist, lecturer, patron of the arts, and social reformer. Dreier studied art in the United States and in Europe. She was most influenced by modern art, particularly by her friend Marcel Duchamp, with whom she founded the Société Anonyme for the study and promotion of modern art, including Cubism, Expressionism, Dadaism, Futurism, and Bauhaus.
Dreier was also an active suffragette. She was the head of the New York City's German-American Committee of the Woman Suffrage party in 1915. She also co-founded the German House for Recreation of Women and Children and served as its president.
