Biographical/Historical Information
William Zorach was a sculptor, painter, printmaker, and writer. Zorach Gorfinkel was born into a Lithuanian Jewish family, in Jurbarkas in Lithuania (then a part of the Russian Empire). His family emigrated to the United States in 1894. Zorach studied art at the Cleveland School of Art and the National Academy of Design in New York. Some of his works were displayed in the Armory show in 1913. He is notable for being at the forefront of artists from the U.S. who embraced the cubist movement.
