    Recto: Portrait of a man and woman in profile facing right. The man in front has his hair tied back and wears a sash draped around him with a jacket with decorated lapels. Behind him is a woman with curly hair and a dress with lace along the bust. Around the edge is the text, "WILHELM. PR. HAER. HASS. CASSEL. ET AUGUSTA PR. BOR. Verso: Image of a nude angel holding a long torch in his left hand and a wreath in his right. Across the bottom is the text, "NUPT. CEL. BEROLINI MDCCXCVII" and around the top edge of the medal it reads, "BONI CONIUGATOR AMORIS" LBI own another medal made from this same mold: 2024.124

Biographical/Historical Information

William II (1777-1847) was the penultimate Elector of Hesse, succeeding to the role on his father's death in 1821. In 1797 he married Princess Augusta of Prussia, fourth daughter of King Frederick William II of Prussia. She died in 1841.

Abraham Abramson (1754-1811) was the son of Jacob Abraham, a medallist and minter. Abramson was an apprentice to his father beginning at the age of seventeen. He was appointed a royal medallist in 1781, and in 1792, became a member of the Preussische Akademie der Kuenste, Berlin.
