Biographical/Historical Information

The German American Insurance Company was founded in 1872. The company had several locations in lower Manhattan in New York City, and was located at the building at 1 Liberty Street from 1908-1957. The company changed its name to the Great American Insurance Company in 1918, due to anti-German sentiments during World War I.
