Biographical/Historical Information

Wilhelm Anninger (1848-1918) was born as Wilhelm Abeles, the eldest son of David Abeles (1811-1911) and Sybville "Sophie" Abeles (née Loewy) (ca. 1814-1911). He was born in Waltsch in Bohemia (now part of the Czech Republic), and at age thirteen traveled to Vienna for work in 1861. Wilhelm had married Charlotte (née Schlesinger) (1854-1875) in 1871, and with money from Charlotte's father had founded a cotton-brokering business, Wm. Abeles & Co., also in 1871. He also helped to found the buisness society, Wiener Kaufmaennischer Verein. Charlotte died after the birth of their second child, and Wilhelm and then remarried Doris (née Janovski) (1852-1924) in 1876; Wilhelm overall had seven children. He changed the family name from Abeles to the less Jewish-sounding name Anninger in 1888, though he never changed the name of the business from Wm. Abeles & Co. Wilhelm's first son, Otto, later took over the family business as a senior partner. Wilhelm died in 1918.

Christian Wilhelm Allers (6 August 1857 – 19 October 1915) was a German painter and printmaker.
