Biographical/Historical Information

The author, caricaturist, and graphic artist Carl Reinhardt was born 1818 in Leipzig, Germany. He contributed to the satirical magazine Fliegende Blätter and others, and toward the end of his life he lived as a bar-keeper in Dresden. Carl Reinhardt died in Radebeul, Germany in 1877.

The artist and learned wood-engraver Adam Rosenzweig (1826-1908) was brother of Franz Rosenzweig’s grandfather Louis Rosenzweig. In his youth in Kassel, the philosopher Franz Rosenzweig learned much about Judaism from his granduncle Adam.
