Yom Kippur - Wladimir Wolynski
Day of Atonement – Yom Kippur – Due to the invitation of the field chaplain Levi, I already drove to Wladimir Wolynski at 9.30 a.m., by car that the General himself was offering me (…). I spent the whole day in Temple in a place of honor next to Levi, with exception of the afternoon break from 2 till 4 (…). I returned to the Temple and stayed until 5.30 pm whereon I drove back and reached the commando at 7.00 pm. The car was supplied for me the whole day. I fasted until that point, actually very easy, and I didn’t feel hungry at all. The sermon this time was so much better than the one for New Years. The praying itself was sincere and in Hebrew. – an excellent cantor – just the company was pretty lowly, a bunch of ordinary soldiers and Russian Jews.(...).
