Max Volgger was born in Merano (Italy). He studied Jewish Studies and Contemporary History and Media at the University of Vienna, completing both programs with a master’s degree. He is active in several remembrance-policy initiatives, and worked for many years at the Jewish Museum of the City of Vienna. After ten years in Vienna, he moved to New York City in 2025 where he is now responsible for the Austrian Heritage Collection, a project initiated by the Austrian GEDENKDIENST organization, focused on documentation and preservation of stories of Austrian Jewish Holocaust survivors and their families.
