The Leo Baeck Institute - New York | Berlin invites everyone to the start of our event series „Wo die Liebe hinführt…“ (What love leads to...)

About the Lecture

Dr. Elke Vera Kotowski, associated scientist at the Moses Mendelssohn Center, Potsdam and Dr. Miriam Bistrovic, Director of Berlin Operations at the Leo Baeck Institute - New York | Berlin will discuss the topic:
New Home or Lifelong Exile?  Flight, transit, emigration and their aftermath for couple dynamics.

Dr. Elke Vera Kotowski is an expert on European Jewish cultural, literary and migration history. Current research projects are “‘A tejl fun einer kraft’ – Yiddish translations of German-language literature in the interwar period 1919-1939”, “Culture and Identity. German-Jewish cultural heritage at home and abroad” and “Objects of Exile”. Since 2020 she has been chief curator of the Moses Mendelssohn Foundation and managing director of the Moses Mendelssohn Institute (Berlin/Hamburg).

The series of events deals with the many facets of Jewish life, relationships and partnerships, the possibilities of asserting oneself even under the most adverse circumstances and the interplay between romantic ideals and the sober reality of life.
In the coming events, we therefore want to explore the question of how these different lifestyles manifest themselves and perhaps change in the past and present.

Please note: this event is in-person at the Mendelssohn-Remise, Jägerstraße 51, 10117 Berlin, 6 pm CET.

Registration: Please email events-berlin@lbi.cjh.org
