LBI President Emeritus Ismar Schorsch attended the Deutscher Verein’s annual dinner at the Union Club on September 9, 2015 to give a lecture that reflected on both the 60th anniversary of the Leo Baeck Institute and the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Germany and Israel.
Deutscher Verein was founded in 1842 to provide a platform for the intellectual, cultural, and social life of the city’s burgeoning population of German immigrants. Over 170 years later, the club still works to foster cultural heritage and ties to the German-speaking world among Germans and German-Americans in New York City.
In addition to Schorsch, the guests at the dinner included LBI President Ronald B. Sobel, German Ambassador to the UN Harald Braun, German Consul General Brita Wagener, and Israeli Deputy Consul General Amir Sagie.
